Funky Matcha Is Now Available at Apohem
Funky Matcha is now available at Apohem, one of Sweden's leading online pharmacies. You can buy 12 of our products there, including our Ceremonial Grade Matcha Powder, Premium Everyday Matcha, Single Origin Uji matcha, four flavours of Nespresso®-compatible* matcha pods and the handcrafted tools you need to whisk matcha at home.
We have been looking forward to sharing this one. Apohem is where a lot of people in Sweden already buy their skincare, vitamins and everyday health products, and now our matcha sits right next to them. If you would rather order matcha together with the rest of your Apohem basket, and collect Club Apohem points while you do it, you now can.
What is Apohem?
Apohem is a Swedish online pharmacy selling health, wellness and beauty products alongside prescription and over-the-counter medicines. It is a licensed pharmacy, authorised by the Swedish Medical Products Agency (Läkemedelsverket), and offers advice from pharmacists and skin therapists through its customer service. Apohem was named Store of the Year 2025 in the beauty category (Årets Butik 2025 inom Skönhet), and runs a membership programme, Club Apohem, where members earn points on every purchase.
For us, that combination matters. People who shop at a pharmacy tend to read ingredient lists and care about what goes into their daily routine. That is exactly who we make matcha for.
Which Funky Matcha products can you buy at Apohem?
You can find the full Funky Matcha range at Apohem in the Matcha & matchapulver category. Here is everything that is available right now:
Matcha powder
- Ceremonial Grade Matcha Powder 50 g: our best-selling matcha and the one we recommend to most people. Smooth, naturally sweet and made to be whisked with water and nothing else.
- Ceremonial Grade Matcha Powder 30 g: the same matcha in a smaller size, a good way to try it before committing to a bigger pouch.
- Ceremonial Matcha Powder Single Origin Uji, Kyoto 30 g: our single origin matcha, for when you want to taste one specific tea garden rather than a blend.
- Premium Everyday Matcha Powder 50 g: a fuller, slightly bolder matcha made for daily lattes, iced matcha and smoothies.
- Roasted Hojicha Powder, Tedsrightmind Limited Edition 30 g: roasted green tea powder with a warm, toasty flavour, in a limited edition tin designed together with Bristol-based artist Ted Rand-Bell.
Nespresso®-compatible* matcha pods
- Ceremonial Matcha Pods, 10 pcs: pure ceremonial grade matcha in a pod. Press the button and top up with milk if you like.
- Matcha Latte Pods, 10 pcs: made for a creamy matcha latte in under a minute.
- Vanilla Matcha Pods, 10 pcs: matcha with a soft vanilla note.
- Coconut Matcha Pods, 10 pcs: matcha with coconut, great over ice.
Matcha tools
- Handcrafted Black Bamboo Chasen: a matcha whisk made from genuine black bamboo, with 100 finely split prongs for a smooth, even foam.
- Black Bamboo Scoop, Handcrafted Chashaku: a traditional bamboo scoop for measuring the right amount of matcha.
- Stainless Steel Chakoshi, Ultra-Fine Matcha Strainer: sift your matcha before whisking and you get rid of every clump.
Which matcha should you choose?
The right matcha depends on how you plan to drink it. A simple way to decide:
- You want to drink matcha with just water: choose the Ceremonial Grade Matcha Powder. Ceremonial grade is the smoothest and least bitter type of matcha, so it tastes good on its own.
- You want to explore how matcha from one place tastes: go for the Single Origin Uji, Kyoto.
- You mostly drink matcha lattes: the Premium Everyday Matcha has a fuller flavour that holds up well against milk and oat drinks.
- You want matcha without any whisking: choose one of the matcha pods and use your Nespresso® Original machine*.
- You want something warm and mellow for the evening: try the Roasted Hojicha. Roasting gives it a toasty, caramel-like taste, and hojicha is typically lower in caffeine than matcha.
What do you need to make matcha at home?
To make traditional matcha at home you need three things: good matcha powder, a bamboo whisk (chasen) and a bamboo scoop (chashaku). A fine strainer (chakoshi) is optional, but it makes a real difference to how smooth the result is. All four are available from Funky Matcha at Apohem.
If you would rather get everything in one go, our Funky Matcha Starter Kit bundles 50 g of Ceremonial Grade Matcha, the black bamboo chasen and the chashaku, and is available at funkymatcha.com.
How to make matcha: step by step
- Sift: sift 2 scoops (about 2 g) of matcha into a bowl through a chakoshi.
- Add water: pour in around 70 ml of hot water at 70-80°C. Avoid boiling water, as it makes matcha bitter.
- Whisk: whisk briskly in a zig-zag "M" or "W" motion for 15-20 seconds until a fine foam forms on top.
- Enjoy: drink it as it is, or pour it over milk and ice for an iced matcha latte.
Tip: soak the whisk prongs in warm water for a minute before you use it. It softens the bamboo and makes the whisk last longer.
How do you use the matcha pods?
Put a pod in a Nespresso® Original machine*, choose a short or long cup and press the button. For a latte, brew the pod over a glass of warm or cold milk. For an iced version, brew it straight over ice and top with milk. No whisk, no bowl and no clean-up.
Why we wanted to be at Apohem
Matcha has become one of the drinks people reach for when they want an alternative to coffee. It naturally contains both caffeine and the amino acid L-theanine, and many people simply like the steadier way it fits into their morning.
But the market is full of matcha that looks fine on a photo and tastes bitter in the cup. We started Funky Matcha to make high quality matcha easy to find and easy to drink every day. Being on Apohem's shelves puts that matcha in front of people who already care about quality, in a place they already trust.
It is also part of a bigger picture. Funky Matcha is sold in Swedish grocery stores, served in premium cafés and hotels across Europe and Asia, and available through selected online retailers. Apohem is an important step in making good matcha an everyday product in Sweden.
Apohem or funkymatcha.com: where should you buy?
Both work, so it comes down to what suits you:
- Buy at Apohem if you already shop there, want to combine matcha with other health and beauty products in one order, or want to earn Club Apohem points.
- Buy at funkymatcha.com if you want our full range, including products that are only available with us, such as our 50-pod variety pack, Osmanthus Matcha Pods, ceramic matcha bowls, whisk holders and our matcha gift sets. We also ship worldwide.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy Funky Matcha at Apohem?
Yes. Funky Matcha is available at Apohem's online store at apohem.se. You will find our products in the Matcha & matchapulver category under Mat & dryck, or by searching for "Funky Matcha".
How many Funky Matcha products does Apohem sell?
Apohem currently sells 12 Funky Matcha products: five matcha and hojicha powders, four flavours of Nespresso®-compatible* matcha pods and three matcha tools (a bamboo whisk, a bamboo scoop and a stainless steel strainer).
Is the matcha at Apohem the same as on funkymatcha.com?
Yes. The products at Apohem are exactly the same Funky Matcha products we sell in our own online store. The difference is that funkymatcha.com carries our full range, including some products that are only available with us.
What is the difference between ceremonial grade and everyday matcha?
Ceremonial grade matcha is made to be whisked with just water. It is smoother, sweeter and less bitter. Our Premium Everyday Matcha has a fuller, slightly bolder taste that works well with milk, which makes it a good choice if you mainly drink matcha lattes.
Does matcha contain caffeine?
Yes. Matcha is made from whole green tea leaves and naturally contains caffeine, as well as the amino acid L-theanine. How much caffeine you get depends on how much matcha you use. If you are pregnant or sensitive to caffeine, keep an eye on your total daily intake from all sources.
Do Funky Matcha pods work in any coffee machine?
Our pods are made for Nespresso® Original machines*. They do not fit Nespresso® Vertuo machines or other capsule systems.
What water temperature should I use for matcha?
Use water at around 70-80°C. Boiling water burns the matcha and makes it taste bitter.
Thank you to everyone at Apohem for welcoming us. We cannot wait to see Funky Matcha in more Swedish kitchens.
